Benefits Balance the Burden

The Windsor/Essex Community Benefits Coalition (WECBC), has recently been awarded a grant by the Atkinson Foundation, under the Foundation’s Decent Work Fund.

“We are very excited about the generous support of the Atkinson Foundation,” says Joan Mavrinac, Coalition Co-Chair, “Their funding and support means we are able to hire a full time staff person, launch a website, and continue to work to ensure that our community’s priorities are reflected in community benefits delivered through projects like the Gordie Howe International Bridge, and other large infrastructure projects.”

“We’re expecting an announcement from the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) by the end of this month on the agreement that they have reached with the proponent, Bridging North America (BNA),” says Brian Gray, Coalition Co-Chair, “BNA has demonstrated their commitment to Community Benefits in a major infrastructure project in Toronto. We hope to inform their process locally by offering our research and our resources to assist them in any way in delivering a similarly significant Community Benefit Agreement in our region.”
